If you’ve walked into a garage or commercial space and noticed a floor covered in colorful chips embedded in a glossy surface — that’s epoxy flake flooring, and it’s one of our most requested systems at Columbia Epoxy Flek.
What Is It?
Epoxy flake flooring — also called a chip system or broadcast system — combines a solid epoxy base with decorative vinyl flakes scattered across the surface while it’s still wet. A clear topcoat locks everything in and creates a smooth, sealed finish. The result looks incredible, hides minor surface flaws, and performs extremely well under daily use.
How It’s Installed
First, the concrete is ground or shot blasted to create a clean, porous surface. A penetrating primer is applied, followed by a colored epoxy base coat. Decorative vinyl flakes are broadcast over the wet surface — either partially for a subtle look or at full coverage for a bold, uniform appearance. Once dry, loose flakes are scraped away and a durable polyaspartic topcoat seals everything.
Why People Choose Flake Floors
The multi-color flake pattern comes in dozens of combinations and naturally conceals dirt, dust, and light tire marks between cleanings. The texture of the flakes adds grip underfoot. It’s impact-resistant, chemical-resistant, and with proper care lasts 15 to 20 years.
Where It Works Best
Residential garages, basements, patios, pool decks, gyms, commercial kitchens, warehouses — flake flooring works in almost any environment.
