The real reasons epoxy peels
The number one culprit is poor surface preparation. Epoxy bonds mechanically to concrete, which means the slab has to be opened up through diamond grinding or shot blasting so the coating can grip into the profile. If someone simply cleans and paints over a smooth, sealed slab, the bond never forms and the floor peels away in sheets.
The second cause is moisture. Concrete is porous, and here in the Carolinas our humidity and clay-heavy soils push vapor up through slabs — especially in basements and garages. If that moisture is not tested and managed, it builds pressure under the coating and delaminates it. That is why we run calcium chloride or relative-humidity moisture tests before we ever open a bucket.
